Yes, the IBD "can" compete on the playing field called the internet and with BicycleMall.com the IBD participation is FREE! The concept is to offer nationally advertised brand name bicycles and bicycle parts/accessories to the consumer enthusiast that is online looking to buy bicycle products. But this is not a consumer discount e-commerce web site. BicycleMall.com DOES NOT sell direct to the consumer! Instead of selling to the consumer (like mail-order and e-commerce) bicyclemall.com directs the consumer to their local IBD store to purchase the product from the IBD. How does the IBD participate for free? By just logging in and signing up their store(s) for the products offered each month (it takes only minutes). That way when the consumer is ready to buy they will be directed to their closest BicycleMall.com registered store. Volume is the key. We need the dealer base so that the consumer can find a participating dealer within a reasonable driving distance. We will need the distributors to sign in when prompted to assure that the dealer can find the product conveniently. And finally we need a wide selection of suppliers products for the consumer to want to keep coming back to the site. So encourage your suppliers to place their product(s) on the mall. The internet is here to stay and the IBD needs to be aligned with partners that will help them to be successful in this rapidly changing environment.
